KingCast says say it ain't so... no mo Pho :(

Pho Republique (Zagat reviews) is going the way of the dinosaur, sometime sooner than any of us would like. This summer we heard about the sale + demise of this lil' fun spot in South End (read: Roxbury) in the fall/winter, and it was like, oh, well fall/winter, that's a long way away.

Sadly, it isn't. The first pic is the viewshed from the front door, tripod on the back seat of the 650R. Dig the parabola of the helmet visor against the window arches. Purely accidental, also totally fun.

read: Roxbury is not part of the South End.
The South End lies south of the Back Bay, northwest of South Boston, northeast of Roxbury, north of Dorchester, and southwest of Bay Village. Despite the name, it is not directly south of the center of downtown Boston.

Read this:

Roxbury is a neighborhood within Boston, Massachusetts USA. It was one of the first towns founded in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630, and became a city in 1846 until annexed to Boston on January 5, 1868.[1] The original town of Roxbury once included the current Boston neighborhoods of Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, West Roxbury, the South End and much of Back Bay. Roxbury now generally ends at Columbus Avenue to the north and Lenox Street to the east.

It's all about the gentrification and social strata:

... For those of you from out of town, Roxbury is the part of town you don't want to live in; South End is the rapidly-gentrifying buffer between Back Bay (where you do want to live) and Roxbury. South End is known for, among other things, its gay community, its art community, its restaurants, and its fast-appreciating housing prices in exactly the way Roxbury isn't. ...

Just my $.02 ;)

PS:

Fun pics though, eh?

I've gone through periods of my life where I didn't have any pictures. Sometimes that's fine and you leave it to your memory bank, file it there.

Other times it's good to have the pictures, especially when a landmark is going down.

Indeed. And you'll find that's true for women as well.

Anyway, if you are the original poster at 6:58 I hope you have learned something from this exchange.

I have learned that technically South End is no longer part of Roxbury (you had it twisted the way you wrote "Roxbury not part of South End."

And you learned, if you did not know already, that "South End" is a relatively recent construct.

We both keep on keepin' on and that is what is beautiful about life, and why I love life so much :)

PS: Did you enjoy the pictures, though, and are you a fan of Pho Republique?

Peace.
